WHAT WE DO
The SSIG is here to make your DPT and PTA student voice heard! We provide opportunities to get involved and interact with students from other programs. From Wisconsin Student Conclave to PT Pub Night to fundraising, our goal is to make sure you get the most out of your years as an APTA/WPTA student member. Have a great idea? Planning an event for your school and want greater turnout? Contact us!
It's time to dust off those running shoes because SSIG is hosting a Virtual 5k!
Take a break from Online Corona University to support your student SIG by run/walking in our first ever virtual 5k race! Our Running from 'Rona 5k is like everything else these days, ~virtual~.
Register for $10 and receive a 5K training program, a bib to print for race day, entry into a raffle for one of our various prizes, and the option to create your own fundraising page to rally friends and family behind you as you run in support of our student special interest group.
Complete at your own pace between Monday 9/14 - Sunday 9/20 and join us that Sunday 9/20 at 6:30pm for a Zoom "After Party" to pick the raffle winners, recognize top racers, and celebrate the crossing the finish line, wherever that may be for you!
For more information please visit our 5k page under the "events" tab.
Student of the Month:
Jessica Ahrens, SPT
"Hello, my name is Jessica Ahrens, and I am from a small town called Versailles, Ohio. In 2019, I earned my undergraduate degree in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and was the student commencement speaker. I am continuing my education at UWL and will graduate from their Doctorate of Physical Therapy program in May 2022. During my graduate studies at UWL, I continued competing as a captain on the UWL gymnastics team, became a DPT class officer, and represented UWL for both the APTA and the WPTA. At the start of my second year, I became a student physical therapy assistant at UWL. Within this position, I help professors, classmates, and first-year students collaborate and maintain organization within the physical therapy department while representing our program on campus. In August, I am very excited to be at Gundersen's inpatient neuro facility to apply the knowledge I have learned in the classroom and to help treat patients! After graduation, I hope to work at the VA with post-war veterans to not only restore their physical function but to also give them one more reason to smile everyday."
-Jessica Ahrens, SPT, UW-La Crosse Class of 2022
